An original, antique, copper-engraved strip road map originally published in London in 1775 by Sayer and Bennett in ‘Jefferys’s Itinerary, Or Travellers Companion ...’. The atlas had 104 plates (printed double-sided on 52 pages with plate numbers in the top corners) detailing the direct roads and principal cross roads in England, Wales and part of Scotland. It was an invaluable ‘pocket-sized’ resource for the 18th century traveller. The maps are updated versions of earlier works by Ogilby and Senex with each plate uncoloured as published and measuring approximately 210mm x 165mm with margins beyond, printed on both sides.

There is significant detail of towns, villages and topographical features with some of the main settlements along the route as follows:

Plate 48 - Newmarket, Thetford, Norwich.

Plate 47 - Hatfield, Stevenage, Biggleswade, Oakham.

Condition report: Good, overall age toning as is common; occasional very light age spots; loss to edge of sheet not affecting printed area . See photographs (2 photos of each side).
