A very nice engraving of Francis Burns (1809–1863), an American Methodist minister who served as a missionary in Liberia. He was the first African-American Bishop of the Methodist Episcopal Church and a remarkable man. The engraving is from The Ladies Repository (March, 1859) and is from a photo by Matthew Brady.

The outside dimensions are about 9.75" x 6.5". A tissue paper flap covers the engraving. Good condition. The paper is soiled as shown. There is wear and tear on the left hand edge and handwriting on the back.

A rare image and a superb addition to any collection. Displays really well. I ship every day the post office is open with your item safely packed. I always combine shipping and will refund back any overage when you buy multiple items. Please see the Civil Rights section and the rest of my store for more museum quality artifacts.
