MATSONIA (1932)

She was built by Bethlehem Steel Co., Quincy, Mass for the Matson Line. She was a 18,565 GT ship with dimensions of 605'x79'. Twin-screw, 22 knots, steam turbines, two masts and two funnels.

Passengers: 760 first class. Entered Matson Navigation Co's California-Hawaii shuttle service in 1957.

In 1952 the Matson Line had sold the liner to the U.S Government but repurchased her in 1956, so as to provide weekly service to Hawaii.

Was the MONTEREY IN 1956.
