An interesting original, antique, copper-engraved map of ancient Belgium and the Netherlands. The map is titled ‘Patriae antiquae Inter Iuli et Caroli Magni Caesarum Romanorum Tempora Descriptio and was published by Jan Jansson in Amsterdam in c.1670.

North is oriented to the right with various annotations in Latin and a decorative title cartouche and compass rose. There is significant topographical detail. The map is uncoloured and measures approximately 470mm x 385mm with wide margins beyond, Dutch text verso.

The overall condition is good and there is a good strong print impression. There is some light staining to the left and right lower edges of the sheet but this is mainly in the margins, and the edges of the sheet are a little ragged (well away from the printed area). This map would display very well if mounted and framed (see photographs).
