Rare Antique Leather Needle Packet Box

English * Circa 1830-40

This lovely needle box is covered with leather and was used to hold packets of needles. I've never seen another like it so am going to call it rare. The front is gold embossed with scrolling medallions and "NEEDLES". The inside front cover is lined with brocaded silk that is being used as a cushion for loose needles. The box is lined with the same silk and contains an old packet of needles. The underside of the flap has a label that says "Sold by DOBSON 162 Strand" (London). This is William Dobson. His ads stated "Pocket Books, Writing Desks Shaving & Dressing Cases every article for fitting up the same on the Lower Terms possible." This firm traded from 1797-1847 but was recorded at this address (no. 162) from 1826–47.

The condition of the case is excellent with hardly any scuffing. You would never guess it's almost 200 years old. The top flap slides into a slot on the front and it closes securely. It measures 3 1/4" long x 1" wide.

I stand behind everything that I offer and guarantee that it is exactly as presented.
