A really interesting and relatively uncommon original, copper-plate engraved antique 'Map of Paradise Mount Ararat and the City of Babel according to three different Hypotheses mentioned in this Work', unsigned but likely engraved by Thomas Bowen and published in 'An Universal History from the Earliest Account of Time' (Vol. 1), in London in 1747.

This map covers much of the Middle East and gives three possible locations for 'Paradise'. It also includes a cartouche with 'Astronomical Observations according to which the Map hath been formed'. The map measures approximately 355mm x 270mm, blank verso.

Condition report: Good overall condition; light age toning; trimmed close to neatline on three sides; approx. 3.5cm diagonal closed tear at the right edge of the sheet where it was bound into its original publication (extends into the printed area but no loss); very small split where a horizontal and vertical fold meet (again no loss). There are multiple original folds to enable the plan to fit within the source publication. Please study the photographs carefully.
