A nice old Japanese shallow dish / bowl; made of copper with a bronzed finish.
Lovely patina. Exquisitely worked in great detail. Even the pattern on the kimono is captured in the metal.
Depicts a woman in a kimono (Geisha?) standing under a plum tree in blossom.
It shows a moment in time but there is sense of movement with flowing water in the background and the woman is depicted in the act of pulling up a hood or shawl and looking over her left shoulder as if looking towards a change in the weather.
The woman is almost completely surrounded / protected by the plum tree and its oversized blossom.
Around the edge of the bowl there is an organic zig-zag design.
On the reverse the metal is un-decorated. There is simple round foot. No makers marks.
The edge of the dish is very slightly distorted in places. (see photos 11, 12 & 13).
I do not know the age but I think it is 19th or early 20th century (Meiji era). Please judge this for yourself.
It is 12cm in diameter.
It weighs about 130g.
