An original antique, copper-engraved set of small plans of South American cities published in c.1881 in Adolf Stieler’s  ‘Hand Atlas uber alle Theile der Erde und uber das Weldgebaude ’ by the Justus Perthes publishing house in Gotha. The 6th edition which was printed from 1875-1881 is generally regarded as the edition in which the work reached the high scientific level and the unsurpassed relief Stieler's Atlas is famous for.

The plans include Rio de Janeiro, Buenos Aires, Barranquilla, Santa Marta, Puerto Cabello, Cartagena, San Salvador, Montevideo and La Guaira (notes in German). It is nicely outline hand coloured with the printed area measuring approximately 400mm x 330mm with good sized margins beyond, blank verso. There is a centrefold as published. This map is sheet six of six in the original atlas covering the entire south American continent (at time of listing the other five are all currently available in the store).

Condition report: Excellent condition, good quality paper, light age toning as is appropriate to a map of this age. Please study the photographs carefully.
