GB Coin Queen Elizabeth II Half Crown 1955

Diameter 32mm. 14.1 g.

Minted during the reign of Queen Elizabeth II.

Prior to 1920, half crowns were 92.5% sterling silver. This was was then reduced to 50% silver. In 1947, no silver would be used and they were made from cupro-nickel. The last half crown intended for general circulation would be issued in 1967. All half crowns would be withdrawn from circulation in 1970, prior to decimalisation.

A nice example to add to the collection.
