An original Indian watercolour, estimated to date to late 19th/early 20th century.

It depicts the Hindu deity Lord Krisha leading a white cow and her calf down a street. Three women look out from a window above.

In Hinduism cows are thought of as sacred and it is believed that to take care of them adds spiritual merit. Krishna is often depicted with white cows thus signifying his devotion to God and his commitment to caring for his fellow beings.

Signed with a monogram lower right, quite a complex one but I think it is 'FTS'.

Painted on watercolour paper and in excellent condition.

Well presented with a double card mount, gold beneath and blue above. Within a gilt wood frame.  The mount is in excellent condition, the frame is very good vintage condition.

Glazed and ready to hang.

Measures 35 x 24cm including the frame, the visible painting only is 24 x 12.5cm.

Postage £6 in the UK, £22 to mainland Europe and £40 to the USA.
