In the mid century lamps broke out of the ordinary and became
highly specialized to complement all sorts of interiors and design themes.
A romance with ancient China existed and really took on a life
of its own in the furnishings market after China became communist
and many old books, antiques and furnishings were destroyed
in Mao's purging. Hong Kong and other nations quickly acted
to protect the treasures of Chinese history.
One of the ways they did this was to manufacturer authentic
reproductions of ancient Chinese pieces - such as this lamp
with an authentic Shang Dynasty ritual wine vessel base!
This lamp is extremely rare. It is made of enameled metal and wood.
Today, lamps like this are almost non-existent.
A remnant of another era of high quality workmanship that paid
homage to other historic cultures and styles. This particular one is
not only very rare, but in great condition
for its age and composition.
Lamp has a single 3-way socket. Textured, white, rice paper shade.
Works perfectly and is a very rare lamp indeed!
