This WW1 Era Canadian Red Ensign Flag 1886 is an incredibly rare and original piece of Canadian history.

Made in Vancouver BC Canada by Jones & Son's, this flag features the classic red ensign design with the Union Jack in the top left corner and the Canadian coat of arms in the bottom right corner. The flag is in used condition but has been well-preserved for its age and remains in impressive shape.

This is one of the first flags that Jones & Sons produced In 1886, at that same time Vancouver had been destroyed by fire, thus many people were living in shacks, tents, or under tarps, prompting Jones to quickly establish a workshop on the wharf near Gastown. Family lore states that it was also one of Jones’ tents that was used when the first city council met in 1886.

26 May 1868: )A royal warrant grants arms to the four provinces and creates the Great Seal of Canada, which is the four provincial arms quarterly. Though the Great Seal looked like a coat-of-arms, it technically was not. The Canadian Red Ensign was probably created shortly after this (without formal authority) and flown over Parliament, but I have no date for this. The Nova Scotia arms did not look like the current ones. They were silver (or gold?) with a wavy blue horizontal bar charged with a silver salmon, with two thistles above and one below.

This is a must-have for any serious collector of Canadian history or military memorabilia. It's a unique and significant piece that embodies the spirit of Canada during a pivotal moment in history. Don't miss out on your chance to own this very rare original flag.
