Antique Hand Made Beaded Bristol Board Needle Book

English * Circa 1870

This antique needle book was made by a lady in the mid-Victorian era and is all handmade. It is made of perforated card paper that was especially made to be a needle book. The borders are pierced with a scalloped design and have been stitched with tiny glass seed beads (about 26 to the inch). The centers on both sides been solidly stitched with the same tiny beads with bordered rose designs.

In the middle there are six finely woven wool flannel pages to hold the needles. They have been edged with silk buttonhole stitches. The covers are lined inside with blue silk. Pale pink silk ribbons provide the ties. It measures 2 1/2" x 3 1/2" closed (not counting ribbons). The condition is excellent inside and out with no loss or tears to the card. The beads all appear to be intact, which is amazing.
