Build Your Own Big Brake Kit.

This big brake parts set provides the three most difficult to source pieces that required to attach off-the-shelf 11 inch diameter rotors, four piston racing brake calipers, and pads, to a 1990-1993 Isuzu car.

This parts set includes the rotor hats, caliper mounting brackets, and brake lines / hoses.

In order to build your big brake kit, you will need to obtain these other needed parts which are not included ($~656):

• PN 28.440.3103 and 28.440.3104 Stoptech brand 280mm x 20.6mm rotor rings ($132).
• Two PN 89.000.0002 Stoptech AeroHat mounting hardware kits (drive pins / bobbins) ($76).
• Wilwood Dynapro Radial Mount Brake Calipers ($406).
• Wilwood BP-10 Brake Pads 150-8850K ($42), or any Wilwood 78XX pattern brake pad.

We recommend the Wilwood 120-7327 Dynapro 4 Piston Radial Mount Brake Caliper with 1.5 inch diameter pistons as a minimum size for use with upgraded rear brakes with single piston caliper.

We recommend the Wilwood 120-8541 Dynapro 4 Piston Radial Mount Brake Caliper with 1.63 inch diameter pistons for use with upgraded rear brakes with two piston calipers (with 1.38 inch piston) or four piston calipers (with 1.0 inch piston).
This caliper provides brake pedal travel that most closely matches that of the original equipment calipers. Calipers with smaller pistons have reduced pedal travel and tend to function more like an on-and-off switch. The pedal travel with the 1.63 inch diameter pistons provides for easy modulation of braking force.
This caliper provides a large increase in clamping force over the OEM caliper, which allows for the use of reasonably mild, streetable, racing brake pads, while providing more stopping power per pound of vehicle weight, than the Brembo four piston brake caliper system used on Subaru Impreza STi and Mitsubishi Lancer Evo. This means drastically increased stopping power, while using pads that are less expensive, do not wear out as fast, cause less wear to the rotor, cause less vibration, cause less noise, and provide full stopping force when cold (do not need to be warmed up to function).

Question:

Why not use the less expensive Dynalite calipers?

Answer:

• The Dynalite calipers are not available in 1.5 inch diameter piston size, which is the minimum size appropriate for use on the 90-93 Isuzu cars.
• The Dynalite caliper lower pad guides, cast into the caliper body, will not clear the bobbins of the Stoptech rotor.
• The Dynalite caliper will not clear the spindle mounting tabs of the 90-93 Isuzu cars.

Question:

Why do we use a 11 inch brake rotor?

Answer:

• To allow for the use of 15 inch wheels and 195/50-15 or 205/50-15 racing tires. Commonly available 12 inch rotors with brake calipers installed will not fit within a 15 inch wheel, and would require the use of 16 inch or larger diameter wheels, with lower profile tires, which are less commonly available in racing tires, much more expensive, and less forgiving for driver technique (less desirable).

The Story Behind This Item

When the 90-93 Isuzu cars were introduced, they were among the top performers in braking performance in the category of sporty small cars. But braking technology dramatically improved in the 25+ years that followed. New small cars that are currently on the market have much more powerful braking systems, with shorter stopping distances. Upgrading the brake system of a 1990-93 Isuzu car improves both safety and enjoyment of these cars, bringing them up to, and surpassing the current standards for braking performance.

We have been using 11 inch front big brakes on our race and street vehicles for almost ten years now.

We are making this parts kit available for purchase so that owners of these vehicles can assemble a true racing quality, professionally designed, brake setup.

We are offering these parts as a set in order to allow the customer the option of customizing their brake system to match their needs and desires. The calipers are available in different sizes providing different clamping forces. The calipers are available in multiple standard and customized colors. In addition, obtaining the off-the-shelf parts from the vendors with the lowest prices, the customer can assemble their brake setup for the lowest cost possible.

Set Includes

• 2 - Brake Rotor Hats (One Left and One Right) for use with Stoptech 280mm x 21.6mm brake rotor rings PN 28.440.3103 and 28.440.3104.
  • Brake rotor hat is made of 6061-T6 aluminum, hard anodized, and dyed black.
    
  • The hat is designed to use Stoptech bobbins, so that the rotor is floating. This prevents the fasteners from loosening when the rotor heats and cools.
    
  • Hat design provides ducts for air flow between the bobbin mounting points, between the hat and the rotor, for additional cooling.


• 2 - Brake Caliper Mounting Brackets (One Left and One Right) for use with Wilwood Dynapro Radial Mount brake calipers for .81 inch thick rotors.
  • Brake caliper mounting bracket is made of 6061-T6 aluminum, hard anodized, and dyed black.
  • Bracket design removes material from non-structural areas for reduced weight and increased airflow behind and beneath the caliper, for additional cooling.
  • The caliper bracket mounting points are helicoiled, for added strength.
  • The caliper studs have been heat treated to Grade 8 spec, and have been finished in black oxide.
  • Two sets of spacer washers are included in thicknesses of .5mm, 1mm, and 2mm, to set the radial offset of the caliper so that the brake pad is as close as possible to the edge of the rotor.
  • Two sets of twelve point lock nuts and washers are included for mounting the calipers to the brackets.


• 2 - Stainless Steel Brake Lines / Hoses (One Left and One Right) for use with Wilwood brake calipers.
  • Brake lines / hoses are built with Brake Quip brand fittings and hose.
  • Teflon hose core, wrapped in stainless sleeve, and then wrapped in clear hose.
  • Each line / hose assembly is pressure tested and rated to 3000 PSI.
  • Fittings have premium coating to protect against corrosion.
  • Female end fitting (inlet end) matches OEM for proper fit in the fender well bracket.
  • Line locator matches OEM to attach the hose / line to the bracket at the bottom of the strut, to prevent damage or snagging on the suspension.
  • Caliper end fitting is angled to meet the caliper correctly.
  • Two AN to NPT adapters are included to attach the lines / hoses to the calipers.
  • The lines / hoses have been specifically designed and manufactured to fit these vehicles like original equipment.

Installation

• Attach Stoptech rotor rings to Isuzuperformance aluminum brake rotor hats using the Stoptech bobbins, per Stoptech's torque instructions.
• Place two piece rotor assembly onto hub. Apply a thin coat of anti-seize between mounting surfaces if desired.
• Attach caliper bracket to spindle, per factory shop manual instructions.
• Attach brake calipers to brake caliper brackets, per Wilwood's instructions.
• Attach brake hoses and bleed brakes, per Wilwood instructions.
• Enjoy driving your vehicle with new brake rotors attached.
