Letter written just two months before his death. 

Charles Townshend Murdoch (1837 – 1898) Banker and Conservative politician who sat in the House of Commons between 1885 and 1898. Served as a lieutenant in the Rifle Brigade, and later as a captain in the South Middlesex Volunteers and adjutant of the Hertfordshire Yeoman Cavalry. Partner in the firm of Ransom, Bouverie & Co and a director of Imperial Fire Insurance Co and London Life Association. Chairman of the Llanelly Railway and a JP for Berkshire. Member of Parliament (MP) for Reading.
