The view looks onto Edinburgh from Calton Hill with Princess Street running west and Edinburgh Castle (built in 1103) appearing in the distance.
It appeared in William Collins's "The Complete Atlas, Consisting of One Hundred and Twenty Maps of Modern, Historical, Classical, and Physical Geography" published in Glasgow in 1878.
