Despite the physical proximity, the German and Czech languages are very different and the Germans have always had problems with Bohemian place names.

The names sounded very strange to them and it was almost impossible to pronounce them. This is how the saying "For me, these are Bohemian villages" came about when someone wanted to express that they didn't understand something.
