Offered here is a charming unframed oil painting of what looks to me to be a gray parrot, although I am no expert on parrots.

The painting is signed in the lower right hand corner of the image, "Jean M. Lawrence".

Jean M. Lawrence (1863-1948) was an illustrator and apparently a painter of miniatures.  I have reason to believe she may have spent her early years in the Minnesota area, but she ended her life in Princeton, New Jersey where she lived at 108 Mercer Street and ultimately was buried in the Princeton Cemetery.  I acquired the painting in Princeton.

I have found one example of her work online.  She did a pair of illustrations for a 1918 book entitled "The People of Tipi Sapa (The Dakotas)" by Sarah Emilia Olden (Morehouse Publishing Co., Milwaukee, Wisconsin).  The illustrations were of a Native American "peace pipe" and a beaded pouch.  There is also a record online of a pair of her miniatures being included in an exhibit of such works.

The dimensions of this piece are 15 1/8 inches in height by 11 inches in width.  The painting is attached at the top to a stiff paperboard which may also have served as a place for Lawrence to do an illustration, as it appears to have a partial advertisement painted there.

This painting is from my personal collection which I am beginning to sell off.  Please read the condition description carefully and review the photographs.  Unless noted otherwise in the description, the prints, art and other items that I sell are not "reproductions".  For example, offered maps are of the period.  I do my best to accurately describe the items being sold, but if you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact me.  Please check my other listings for additional items of interest.  I will combine shipping.
