Ornate Sterling Silver Lacy Pierced Thimble

This beautiful sterling silver thimble is quite unusual. I've never seen one like it and have no idea of the age or nationality. It is solid sterling silver and marked "925" on the rim as well as inside the top. The sides are made up of three rows of pierced lace and the top is solid with punched knurling. 

The size is about an American size 8 (15.1 mm diameter opening). The condition is excellent, crisp and in round with no damage or even wear. It was bought in England, but I doubt it's English. If you know anything about its origin, I would love to hear from you.
