Fender Telecaster Custom, made in the USA.  The serial number and pots appear to date it to 1974.  The later 70s ones have the serial number moved from the neck plate to the headstock, the knobs are different and the body shape slightly different around the neck pocket.

It's a lovely playing, looking and sounding instrument.  The Tele Custom has the Wide Range Humbucker in the neck and traditional single coil Tele pickup in the bridge giving a wide range of sounds.  The construction and materials used in the Wide Range pickup and the 1 MegaOhm pots result in a clear and articulate neck pickup sound that doesn't have the muddy nature of many humbucker pickups.  Fender have recently reissued the Wide Range humbucker after 40 years of being out of production as they have become quite sought after.  In comparison, the bridge pickup is very bright and cutting, mostly due to the 1 MegaOhm pots used for this pickup too.  It's too bright for my tastes, but that's where the 4 control layout of the Tele Custom comes in handy as turning down the tone control to about 4 evens out the brightness of the two for better balance.

The body is made of ash and the grain looks great.  It looks to be a 2 piece body judging by the end of the guitar (see photo) and incredibly for a 70s Fender, the guitar only weighs 3.43kg (or 7lb 9oz). It got its original natural finish to both body and neck. The neck has a nice bit of flame on the back too.

All hardware and electronics are original as far as I can tell apart from the switch tip which I replaced, probably the nut and the frets which have been re-fretted with Dunlop 6105s, so larger frets than it originally came with.  This goes a long way to making it play as comfortably and easily as a modern instrument.  The rets have negligible wear as were only installed a year or two ago.

As I understand it, some Customs were supplied with the traditional 3 saddle bridge and others received this newer 6 saddle.  I like both, but the 6 saddles has the advantage of more accurate intonation for each string.

It's a great guitar, but I've had my fun with it and I could do with the space, so it's ready to be moved on to the next lucky owner!

Here's a short video I threw together so you can see and hear it: https://youtu.be/8rN61tnpi-8
