This carving is most likely from the 1940's.  It very likely could even be earlier.  Take note of the nautical theme throughout the carving, and the nautical theme apears on every side, excepting the bottom.  The value of this box is it's age and the quality of the carvings. The carvings are pristine. They are all sharp, clean, and clear, without chips or damages.  As I stated in the condition section above, the only real condition is that the box has a very slight uneven bottom. That said,  the box closes as it should, the hinges and hasp work perfectly. The finish is beautiful with an aged patina that accents the beauty of this carving. Take note that every corner has hand cut dovetails. This is something that one rarely finds.  It's a masterfully example of skill that one rarely finds today.  As a woodworker for my entire lifetime, I know skill and quality when I see it.

In full disclosure, the box isn't perfect. It's most likely 80 years old or more.  It is, however,  very solid in construction. Please see the many photos.  It is the carving and the quality of it's carving and construction that gives it value.  It truly is a very fine example of workmanship of an era long past.
