We were able to play both a DVD and a VHS tape with this player. We connected the player to a TV using HDMI, and there was both picture and sound each time. We pressed a few buttons on the included remote, and the player responded appropriately. This item belonged to a client of ours. We were unable to test every single function due to lack of the necessary testing environment. This is why we're selling it in ebay's "For Parts or Not Working" Category,
