THE ITEM DESCRIPTION: The Boob McNutt wind-up lithographed tin toy is 8 1/2” tall. This is the RARE variation with a flat hat. The flat hat variation was intended to be placed on a table flat hat down & wound up! On the original box Boob is doing a little jig while holding the toy in his hand flat hat side down. Made by Ferdinand Strauss & copyright dated 1924 The Star Co. which published the Rube Goldberg comic panels & the Boob McNutt comic strip. There is an 8 panel Boob McNutt comic strip on the sides of the original box. Rube Goldberg was best known for his comic drawings of complicated mechanical devices that were designed to do very simple things like turn on a light. Ferdinand Strauss was known as the founder of the mechanical toy industry in the USA & hired future toy manufacturers & competitors including Louis Marx in 1912 & Henry Katz in 1917. When Strauss went out of business in 1927 Louis Marx bought up the Strauss toy patents & leased the Strauss building in NYC. The toy is in excellent original condition & working. It looks to be almost unplayed with condition with no wear on the bottom of the feet & no wear on the top of the hat. Bright, shiny, clean lithography overall. There is some wear around the arm holes where the arms attach to the body. Very little around the left arm hole & a more noticeable amount around the right arm hole. The original box is complete & in excellent condition. The 3 top flaps have been either re-enforced or re-attached with easily removable tape on the inside of the box. There is a long crease down the center of the box on 1 side which should be visible in my photos. A great condition toy in a great condition box & this is the only boxed example of the flat hat Boob McNutt that I have ever owned. 022524/22AJJJ(16)  Selling more comic character tin mechanical toys on eBay now.
