Rolex Submariner 5513, 1967

Rolex Submariner Reference 5513, Circa 1967Leading our narrative is the Rolex Submariner 5513, a timepiece from 1967 that would feel right at home in a world where The Doors' “Light My Fire” played on radios and the groundbreaking "The Graduate" was making waves in cinemas. Classic, Yet Distinctive: The Submariner 5513The Submariner has long been an emblem of the Rolex brand, but the 5513 has a certain charm that distinguishes it from the crowd. Nestled within its 40mm case lies a black dial, punctuated by luminescent markers that, over time, have developed a beautiful patina. But here's the subtle twist: the 5513 doesn't scream its presence like modern Subs do, its for those who love to wear a statement piece that doesn't feel the need to shout. It's classic Rolex, but with a touch of mystery. The Evolution of a Diving Icon The Rolex Submariner 5513 carries with it more than just hours and minutes; it carries a legacy. While the first Submariner splashed onto the scene in 1953, by 1967, when our 5513 was crafted, much of the watch's foundational design was well-established. However, this model retains a palpable vintage aura with its lack of hour market surrounds. A standout feature of the 5513 is its movement. While not chronometer-certified, it's powered by the robust and reliable calibre 1520 movement. This particular aspect made it a more affordable alternative to its sibling, the reference 5512, endearing it to many enthusiasts and leading to its enduring popularity. It's no surprise then that Rolex produced the 5513 for more than two decades, from the 1960s till the end of the 1980s. Further testament to its rich history, the 5513 underwent multiple design evolutions, from its initial glossy gilt dials with radium luminescence to the more familiar matte dials with tritium. Each variation tells a different chapter of the 5513's storied journey. Timeless Allure For the discerning collector or the nostalgic enthusiast, the Submariner 5513 is more than just a vintage watch; it's a slice of horological history. It whispers tales of oceanic adventures and evenings of elegance. If you're someone who appreciates the enduring allure of vintage design, someone who seeks understated sophistication over brash opulence, then this 1967 Rolex Submariner 5513 awaits. Let it grace your wrist, and be a part of its next chapter. As always, for any inquiries, we're here to guide you through its story.

Condition Report: Presented in overall good vintage condition and freshly back from a comprehensive service. The dial, a later replacement, remains in good condition with a pleasing colour to the lume plots. The bezel is a later service replacement and in excellent condition. The case remains in fair order with age related scratches and the occasional ding as would be expected for a watch of this age. The movement has had a full service. Of note, there are 6 service marks to the inner case back, 5 of which are consecutive, and with same initials. Nov 1973, May 1977, Nov 1977, Oct 1985, July 1994 which would indicate the same watchmaker serviced it from new until 1994. Finally the watch is fitted to an Oyster reference 78360 bracelet which remains in good order.

ABOUT US

Founded in 2016, Time Rediscovered was born out of the founder's frustration with the excessive pricing, arrogant service, and dishonest descriptions prevalent in the vintage watch industry. We set out with a simple vision - to make buying and selling vintage watches feel like dealing with a trusted friend. Here's how we do it:

  • Fair Prices: We squeeze our margins and keep our costs low, then pass the savings on to you. No inflated prices or hidden fees, just honest value.
  • Thorough Servicing: While others merely "inspect" their watches, we go the extra mile by fully servicing each piece. Yes, it costs more and takes longer, but we believe it's the only way to responsibly sell watches that are often decades old.
  • Transparency: We always strive to accurately show and describe our watches, so you know exactly what you're getting. No surprises, no disappointments - just a commitment to transparency!

And we're just getting started! We're working on some exciting developments to bring the joys of vintage watch collecting to a new generation of enthusiasts. Be sure to follow our shop to stay updated on our latest listings, offers, and initiatives. Together, let's redefine the vintage watch experience!
