7th President of the United States ANDREW JACKSON excellent autograph cut signature AS PRESIDENT on vellum dated March 12, 1829, just one week after Jackson took his Oath of Office. Co-signed by John Henry Eaton as Secretary of War. Eaton served alongside Jackson in all of his major military campaigns, including the Battle of New Orleans.

The youngest U.S. Senator in history, Eaton resigned to join Jackson's cabinet as Secretary of War. Eaton and his wife Peggy became embroiled in the so-called "Petticoat Affair" where Washington society wives refused to socialize with the Eatons. The wives looked down on Peggy because she had wed so soon after her first husband's death, giving rise to the rumors she had been unfaithful. In an effort to save her reputation, Eaton resigned as Secretary of War after just 2 years, and later received appointments as Governor of Florida and U.S. Minister to Spain.
