This FRENCH stoneware FOX TERRIER  is realistically  sculpted and nearly life size --  14 inches tall, with a detailed coat in gold, royal blue and white glazes.

Large black glass eyes glaze out of a handsome muzzle detailed with a  black nose,  and topped with the typical darker forward  folded   navy and black ears. He typifies the   curious, intelligent  and bright  personality of the terrier, ready to chase a squirrel or sniff out rabbit.

This is a big boy dog - 14 inches tall by 19 1/2 inches nose to the flat  terrier tail, by 8 inches deep - proud and ready for Westminster!   Signed in worn black paint on belly:   "MADE IN FRANCE".   He is solid and heavy, over 10 pounds.  Glazes meld nicely on the sculpture.

Good condition commensurate with age -made in the 1920s or 1930s with a strong Art Deco influence and a period in which Fox Terriers were especially desirable as fashionable pets and subjects of jewelry and home decor.   Think of the Thin Man Series of old films and Nick and Nora Charles'   "Asta".
