This is an antique early 20th century watercolor painting of what I am fairly certain is a French woman sniffing roses with her cat on her shoulder.

It is in its original oak frame.

I would estimate it dates circa 1900s or 1910s.

The overall frame measures 27 3/8 inches high x 36 7/8 inches wide (69.5 cm x 93.6 cm). The painting measures 20 1/4 inches high x 30 inches wide (51.4 cm x 76.2 cm). The back opening size of the frame measures 20 3/4 inches high x 30 1/4 inches wide (52.7 cm x 76.8 cm). The frame’s molding width measures 3 3/4 inches (8.6 cm).

I am fairly certain this is a watercolor, though perhaps it is a gouache? Please use your judgment.

The painting is on a piece of hard cardboard.

It has some noticeable damage, mostly on the left side. You can see scratches going through the painting. I felt this piece of artwork was so unique that I couldn’t let that really bother me when I purchased it. The rest is so beautiful that it tends to just overwhelm this damage, at least from my personal perspective. There are some other scratches and small areas with wear to the painting.

The frame looks like it was originally painted and then stripped. This may have been done intentionally to give it a French Country type of look. It goes beautifully with the painting.

It weighs almost exactly 10 pounds (4.534 kg).
