Beautiful and highly detailed cover. Black leather stamped boards with scroll detail and imprinted title. Spine is also highly decorated with gilt scrolls and oxblood red title band. Golden head with edge and signet. Bound in the workshops of Jeanne De Bonnet. 
Inside covers = black with silver leaf design. 
Black silk page marker. Beautiful black and white illustrations of Josephine, and other important political figures of the times. 
Two pull out two page illustrations: The triumph of France in Rome and "Journees Des 18 Et 19 Brumaire An VII (The coup d'état of 18 Brumaire brought Napoleon Bonaparte to power as First Consul of France. In the view of most historians, it ended the French Revolution and would soon lead to the coronation of Napoleon as emperor).
