Exceptionally rare and wonderful, original ca1870 Mammoth Plate Railroad Locomotive Engine Builder's Photograph of an early American class, Steam Rail Road Locomotive Engine named the "Foxborol" and manufactured by the Rhode Island Locomotive Works for the Rutland, Cheshire & Fitchburg Rail Road.


     This simply fantastic, Railroad Locomotive Builder's Albumen Photograph measures approx. 13 5/8" by 10 1/4" and is mounted on its original, photographer’s Card Mount (overall size of card is 17” by 13 5/8”).


    This outstanding very large size. Card Mount Albumen Photograph pictures a beautiful, 4-4-0 American Class Steam Locomotive Engine with a large, diamond stack smokestack and its engineer and fireman in the cab. Text beneath the window of the cab reads “Foxboro” and lettering o the tender reads “R. C. & F. R. R.”. Visible below the boiler between the two drive wheels is the builder’s plate that identify the manufacturer as the Rhode Island Locomotive Works of Providence, Rhode Island. Although the Image is not dated, the Locomotive is identical to the very first American Class Locomotives manufactured by this Works in the late 1860’s – we believe that this beautiful Railroad Engine was among the earliest manufactured by the Providence Works. .


     This outstanding, 19th century, Steam Locomotive Builder's Photograph is in very good to excellent condition. The Photo itself is generally clean and crisp exhibiting sharp focus and good contrast and tonality although it is a bit uniformly light and has some spots of light foxing in the area of the sky.
