This is for a beautiful and well made antique Japanese 2 part Yatate from the mid 1800s. The Yatate, for those who dont know was a travelling scribes or artists case, it included an inkwell and a brush/pen holder often together in one piece, but in this case separate. It was often worn like many things on the sash of a robe. This one is lovely and original, with lovely patination and age and the original strings. The work is delicate and the same on the brush holder as is on the inkwell. The patination is designed to stop part the way down the shaft leaving the metal to be shown in its raw silver colour up to the tapered end, if you polished it would be vibrant silver, but far better left just as it is. It is in excellent condition with no damage to it anywhere, the lid fits as it should and it has the original brush inside too, also in excellent condition. The brush holder measures 175mm (7") long by 10mm (0.3") in diameter and the inkwell is 35mm (1.3") across by 18mm (0.75") by 25mm (1") tall.
