Michelson Hall of Fame for Great Americans Medal, 1973.  Hall of Fame for Great Americans at New York University.  Bronze, 76mm.  By Elisabeth Gordon Chandler.  Obverse: Bust of Michelson, great American physicist and Nobel laureate (the first American to receive a Nobel Prize for physics) renowned for his work on the speed of light, in profile right; drawing for the revolving mirror from his final report on the "Experimental Determination of the Velocity of Light" to right.  Reverse: The measurement of stellar diameters achieved with the aid of the interferometer atop a giant telescope focusing on the star Betelgeuse; formula to right refers to the visibility of the fringes of light as determined by this experiment.  Struck by the Medallic Art Company, New York.  Condition: EXTREMELY FINE.  Comes with descriptive pamphlet.

The Hall of Fame for Great Americans at New York University was established in 1900. Bronze portrait busts of the honorees were commissioned and placed in an open-air colonnade, and starting in 1962 medals, struck by the Medallic Art Company, were issued to honor the inductees. The series was discontinued in 1975 with 94 medals having been issued.
