Nice condition Spitfire rat trap as shown in Schwinn catalog, starting in1965.
Original finish, no damage or issues. Strong spring action.
It weighs just under 2 lbs., steel.

There is plenty of clearance above 27" wheel.
It will bolt up level on a 24" Varsity style bike frame,
with the seat attachment angling upward,
parallel with the seat stays, looks very nice.

Image of yellow Varsity shows same rack, but heavily oxidized,
with same length (4") clamp, as fitted on 24" frame.

I doubt that anyone would guess
that this rack has a dual use for child seating, since it looks normal
and seems well designed as a spring clamp rack.
It is good looking without the child carrier attachment, and it's sturdy, without issues.
Curved supports are rigid. Compared to aluminum racks, or those with hinged struts,
there isn't as much side deflection.

Apparently, to seat the child, you are to swing the rat trap back
to serve as a backrest, and lock into place,
using the separate child seat accessory kit (not available in this listing).
To keep the legs and feet out of the spokes there were some white plastic covers with string ties
which are to span the brace struts.

Usually ships same or next day.
