Rare Victorian Double-Ended Silver Vesta Case - Birmingham 1887

26 g.

38 mm x 30 mm x 11 mm.

Vacant cartouche.

Book shaped silver vesta case with an engraved floral pattern to the front and engine turned one to the reverse. It is less common to have two completely different designs back and front. Normally, the reverse would be plain, if not repeating the front decoration.

Hallmarks: H.Bs (maker) / Lion (Sterling Silver) / n (1887) / Anchor (Birmingham) / Lion and Date Letter repeated on the insides of both ends that open.

Condition: In wonderful aesthetic condition, with no dents or dings to the silver. The ends snap shut, with just some play to them (rattle a little). So, at present, better suited to display. Nevertheless, a rare vesta case to add to the silver collection, in that its contents can be accessed from either end. Steel striker intact.
