This is an antique French naïve oil painting of a man and a woman picnicking with their dogs on a river bank.

According to the sticker on the back, it dates from the 1920s.

It is signed in the bottom right corner, but is difficult to make out.

The frame measures 12 1/2 inches high x 15 inches wide (31.7 cm x 38.1 cm). The painting measures 9 1/4 inches high x 11 3/4 inches wide (23.5 cm x 29.8 cm).

I have heard of paintings which are actually prints with a shellac covering on them. There are no dots on this painting at all and I am convinced it is not a print. I took the back off and saw that there was a thin cardboard layer attached to a piece of wood. I’m not an expert, but I believe this is on board which was then attached to the wood. If I am incorrect, all of my merchandise is returnable.

The entire surface on the painting is crackled. There are a number of spots where the paint has chipped off, which you can see in the photos. After photographing it, I noticed two small repairs in the tree at the center top. There is wear going around the exterior.

The painting is in a veneer bird’s eye maple frame. There is quite a bit of missing veneer scattered about, including the sides.

The subject matter is just wonderful. If you can look past the damage or plan on having it restored, it will look even better!

It weighs a little over 2 pounds (912 g).
