Folio Society – THE HORNBLOWER SAGA SET 2: CAPTAIN HORNBLOWER by C S Forester

Hornblower is one of the greatest naval adventurers in literature and he is back with heroic battles, stoic command and illicit liaisons in this stunning four volume set: Hornblower and the Atropos, The Happy Return, A Ship of the Line and Flying Colours.

Nelson’s funeral, a war ship commission, aiding the odious el Supremo in the Spanish revolt and being taken prisoner by the French – this next set of four volumes of C. S. Forester’s stories sees Horatio Hornblower engage in hair-raising skirmishes and delicate acts of diplomacy across the globe. Originally written as a series of stand-alone tales, this comprehensive Folio collection brings all the stories together in chronological order, the better to follow the burgeoning naval career of Forester’s affable protagonist during the Napoleonic Wars.

Forester is unswerving in his portrayal of a character whose personal and professional failings are as notable as his heroics – and Hornblower’s traits are brilliantly unpicked by Sharpe author Bernard Cornwell in his introductions to each book. Joe McLaren returns with his evocative black-and-white illustrations and navy-inspired binding designs, while eleven of Foster’s original maps – charting sea, river and land routes – have been meticulously redrawn for exclusive publication by the Folio Society. An elegant slipcase completes a set in which exhilarating historical fiction meets painstaking naval research and razor-sharp comic observation.

Virtually all my items are available through the global shipping program (GSP) to designated countries outside the UK. Please note I have no control over international postage costs. I do not set these, eBay's GSP does, I send the items to an address in the UK and am not even aware of the country for which they are destined. Items purchased through the GSP must be sent via the GSP shipping centre. For multiple purchases, I cannot combine postage after items are purchased but if you contact me before buying I can try combining multiple items into a single listing which is usually less expensive.
