Wittnauer was founded in New York in 1885 by Albert Wittnauer, a Swiss national, and his brother-in-law, J. Eugene Robert, who was already in the business of importing Swiss watches to the United States. Longines and Wittnauer were longtime business partners, with Wittnauer acting as the Swiss brand's U.S. importer for decades. The brand also printed Wittnauer right on dials and made their own watches.

This watch's design sets itself apart with its details. Visually, the first things that stand out are the unusual burgundy-colored bezel. The 40mm stainless steel case houses the Valjoux 7733 movement. The dial has a pair of fairly small chronograph registers with concentric rings and chunky geometric hands, a style very much recognized with the 1970s. Another eye-catching element is the multiple geometric shapes used for the hour markers: You'll find circles, rectangles, and triangles, all beautifully aged.

Overall excellent condition its age, although the caseback has some scratches on the back from a previous owner attempting to open it with improper tools. I took the risk getting this without seeing the movement inside as the case back was very tightly screwed in and had to trouble my watch maker expensive opener to turn it open and wala, the movement engine is a delight to ogle on, with some photos here to share. Bezel rotate smoothly and will benefit from a one time service for long term wear. Missing is the stainless steel bracelet which currently is being offered by a Italian Ebay seller.
