Vintage PHILADELPHIA TOOL CO. (Made By PLUMB) Carpenter/Half Hatchet With a "CAYUGA" Brand Hickory Handle On It.
According to Yesteryears Tools (my go to first source for axe info). Plumb bought Philadelphia Tool Company and continued to use the brand name on some PLUMB made hatchets and hammers. They don't say how long or when it happened though?
So I'm about 99.9% sure this old half hatchet was made by PLUMB. There are no chips or nicks on the cutting edge of this hatchet, and the bit is very sharp! (see pics). The octagonal hammer head has 3 minor dings on the edges of the hammer face (see pics). There's some scratches, ding marks on the head also (see pics). The hatchet head is just a tad loose on the BEAUTIFUL! vintage hard to find "CAYUGA" brand hickory handle (check out how gorgeous the grain is on the handle, simply beautiful!!). No cracks, breaks or repairs on the handle, just a couple of ding marks hear and there on the handle (see pics). The makers name: PHILADELPHIA TOOL CO. is still visible, but just a bit faded (see pics). The hatchet weighs in at 2 pounds 1 oz. And is 13-5/8" long. The head is 6-1/8" long, with a 3-5/8" wide bit. The hammer face is 1-1/4" x 1-1/4" octagonal.
You won't be disappointed in this NICE vintage made in the U.S.A. carpenter/half hatchet, with a gorgeous CAYUGA handle on it.
