Back in the day you could modify the firmware on DVD drives for the original "fat" XBox 360 systems to play burned discs and rip games to a PC. Once the Blaster360 is installed, you never have to open the system to update the DVD drive's firmware. It provides an external connection that allows you to connect the system's DVD drive to your PC via SATA for updating the DVD firmware or backing up games to your PC.
If nothing else, it's a fascinating piece of system modding history and something fun to play around with for XBox 360 enthusiasts. I doubt there are many of these left in circulation, especially in new/sealed condition.
