I am beginning to part with my vast collection iof CNJ / Central railroad of New Jersey  AKA Jersey Central Lines Signal Tower

Interlocking Track Charts. These fully detailed charts - as shown - show every switch, derail, and signal that existed back when.

These LARGE Diagrams were displayed in each tower as a guide to the operator / towerman to show possible routes and conflicts

and the order of manipulation required to move trains safely from one track to another. The diagram is a LARGE 32 x 50 inches.

The early Boolean Logic, early computer actually, interlocking machine would NOT allow the operator to make conflicting

nor dangerous movements. These are precision drawings to exacting standards, a work of art actually !

As Conrail reduced the CNJ property greatly, many tracks and interlockings were downsized and later remote controlled.

These charts are from a period of FULL SERVICE and flexibility in train operations. During my enjoyable CNJ Career

I managed to qualify and work at every CNJ Tower in existence from 1968 onward, only missing Tower A Jersey City..

This chart is from another east end Tower, CY, Oak Island Junction, named  for the crossing and interchange with the PRR.

This tower handled any traffic from the Newark & New York Branch, heading down  the Newark & Elizabeth Branch

to RU Tower and E'port.  While Hack Draw was still in service up to 1946, this served as an alternate route from

E'port to Jersey City in case of trouble at Bay Draw.   After 1946 the tower was still handling the trains in an out of Newark Broad Street

CNJ Station, most of which headed down to E'port and also to points farther.

Of course the Aldene Plan eliminated Newark and other Branch Local passenger service.

This drawing is dated 1934 and revised and / or  checked in 1954,  and was hung on the rear wall of the tower.

As I said, back in the glory days !

1934 is prior to PRR electrification as noted.    The railroad rulers are NOT included in the sale !

I added a page from CNJ ETT #149 showing the amazing amount of service on the Newark & NY Branch.

In later years, the NJ Turnpike overhead, the nearby garbage dump, the wild dogs and winos made this a less than desirable work

location.  But the Lehigh Valley also passed overhead nearby offering some variety.   Shown is a photo of my 1969 Camaro

Indy PaceCar  at CY by RDG OPR Rob Mandeville as he visited back when.

Since they were stored clean and neatly folded, they will ship that way in a large envelope encased in cardboard..

I still have lots more Diagrams and will work westbound, and also work up from Bay Head on subsidiary RR New York & Long Branch

and up from Bridgeton Junction on the NJSouthern., and also some from the CRP, the Pennsylvania Division.
