Vintage 1970s Glomesh Made in Australia Gold Disco Clutch Metal Strap Bag

10 x 5 x 1.5"

This bag can be used as a shoulder bag or a clutch bag.

The coil metal strap can be hidden in the bag.   17.5" strap drop.

This bag shimmers. as the material around the lining is a metallic kind.  I am not sure if it is on purpose or if it is flaw, but the bag is not a flat gold color.  The color is gold to copper to bronze.   The mesh fabric doesn't fall flat on the inner base of the bag so that when you move the metallic "tiles" move and reflect light.  You can feel the base of the bag and it's folds when you use this as a clutch.

The interior is made of a velvet fabric.  There are some stains (see pictures).

This bag is preowned and in overall good condition with some obvious signs of wear which I tried to highlight in the description.   It is clean, but has a dusty odor of being stored in a dry environment.  I was going to spray it with Febreeze, but I know some buyers are opposed to this cleaner and would rather use their personal perfume. This comes from a pet and smoke free environment.

If you look online Glomesh is still one of Australia's iconic brands.  Their bags today are around $300-$500.

They have a similar bag like this one which they have "modernized" on their site.  It is in their "Renee Collection".  These bags are listed at $529.  This bag listed is the "original" version.  Even with it's flaws it is beautiful.

Here is some information from their website: "

Glomesh was founded in Australia by Hungarian immigrants Louis & Alice Kennedy in 1958.

The original Glomesh factory was first set up in Bondi, located in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs. Production later moved to a much larger facility in St Peters in Sydney’s inner west where the beautiful iconic metal mesh was being produced in stunning golds, silvers and vibrant rich enamel colours.

The most notable products created from the glamorous trademark mesh were handbags, purses, clutches, cigarette holders, lighters and make-up compacts.

Glomesh quickly became the “must have” brand in the Australian fashion and accessories market, creating its very own sub-culture and household name status. To this day, Glomesh remains a staple in Australia’s fashion heritage."
