This auction is for the inner electromechanical works, mounting bracket, dial and hands for the Illinois Watch Co Beau Brummel store display clock manufactured by their sister company The Sangamo Electric Company.

The person I purchased it from had inherited it from his grandfather who worked for Sangamo for many years. He stated that these clocks were taken out of service after the sale of the Illinois watch company to the Hamilton watch company in 1928. The aluminum cases were scrapped during World War II, but his grandfather could not bring himself to scrap the movements so this assembly survived. The complete clocks that occasionally show up on the market were the property of the Illinois Watch Co, but with their demise we’re not returned. I have attached pictures of a recently completed eBay auction as an example of what the watch/clock looks like. This clock is NOT part of this auction….only an example.

I have owned this clock assembly for over 20 years, but began cleaning up my huge inventory of Sangamo parts when I ran across this clock again. With the availability of 3D printing I considered having a case made, but decided instead to restore the movement assembly back to factory standards and make upper and lower brackets so the assembly could be used either hanging on the wall or sitting flat on a desk. These brackets can be easily removed if the purchaser should decide to have a case made for it. Only 4 screws were used in the original mounting holes.

This precision movement has gold plated chronometer cut gears which power a beautiful Illinois 11-jewel platform. When power is supplied to the Sangamo electric motor a mainspring is wound to a specific tension which is maintained consistently. As the clock runs the motor keeps the spring at the same tension thereby providing a remontoire system. If the power fails (as it did constantly during that period) the mainspring will power the movement for up to 24 hours. Once the power is restored, the mainspring winds back to it preset tension. For more information on Sangamo Electrically Wound clocks please visit the history page on my website. Sangamo clocks.com This movement also has a “hack” system so that the display could be set to the exact time with precision. This is pointed out in the attached pictures. This clock movement has been completely restored and runs perfectly. I also installed 9 feet of period correct reproduction brown 2-strand power cord and an original Sangamo power plug. It is ready to go.
