The 2023 Bowman Draft Baseball checklist goes deep into the year’s picks with both base cards and autographs. But it’s a Montreal Expos signature of a 1995 draft picks that is likely to grab a significant amount of the spotlight.
Hobby boxes come in a pair of formats, both of which are on the large side. Hobby jumbo boxes deliver a trio of autographs. Super jumbo boxes, which come with five massive 120-card packs, have five signed cards.
The base set, which is available in both Bowman and Bowman Chrome formats, consists of 200 cards. All are prospects with a heavy focus on 2023 draft picks. For those players, it represents their first pack-inserted MLB cards. Other prospects, including some who have Bowman cards already, are also on the checklist.
Being one of the Big 3 Bowman products (along with 2023 Bowman Baseball and 2023 Bowman Chrome Baseball), collectors can expect a fairly vast parallel rainbow. That said, specifics on these haven’t been announced.
Ten players also have Image Variations using different photographs on the front. There are also 15 Chrome Prospectors Special Die-Cut Variations.
Retrofractors return, taking all-time greats and giving them their first mainstream Bowman Chrome cards. Here, it’s Josh Gibson and Carl Yastrzemski. The Red Sox great also has an autographed version.
Just over 100 players have Chrome Prospect Autographs. This includes seven of the top 10 picks from the 2023 MLB Draft. Dylan Crew (#2), Walker Jenkins (#5) and Chase Dollander (#8) are the only three without signatures. Historically, 1st Bowman Chrome Autographs are among a player’s most important baseball cards.
A couple of autograph inserts deliver signatures in bulk. Two Positioned for Excellence have six autographs. Meanwhile, a Picked for Excellence book card has 15 including first overall selection, Paul Skenes.
As for the 1995 draft pick in question, it’s Expos catcher Tom Brady. Yes, that Tom Brady, who passed on a chance to hang out with Youppi and call a crumbling Olympic Stadium his office to go play football instead. The seven-time Super Bowl champ has a standard insert and autograph with him in an Expos uniform. 2014 Topps Five Star Baseball also had Brady autographs. However, they were redemptions that have, to date, gone unredeemed.
Mood Rings, which made their debut in 2022 Bowman Draft, make another appearance here.
