The history of Fort McHenry:

When the British attacked Fort McHenry on September 13, 1814, the American forces successfully resisted their dramatic bombardment. As a result, the British had no choice but to abandon their land assault on the crucial port city of Baltimore and give up their Chesapeake Campaign. Not only did their defeat mark a turning point in the War of 1812, but it also enabled the Americans and British to reach a peace agreement later that year. The exploding shells and rocket fire from British warships also inspired Francis Scott Key to pen the lyrics to the “Star-Spangled Banner.”
As for Fort McHenry, it became an iconic landmark that attracts thousands of tourists every year!
