GOLDEN AGE OF RADIO
RADIO SPINNER has a collection of radio transcripts, airchecks and special broadcasts. This is another rare find from Aircheck City. This is an unscoped, unedited recording of Tommy Dee, a disc jockey that worked at 1290 WGLI. Tommy Dee had his show called Jukebox Saturday Night on Saturday nights from 6:00 PM to midnight, he would play 50's and 60's oldies and some pretty obscure doo wops, he would also play old commercials during his show, this particular unscoped/unedited aircheck is a rare find. This recording is from a Long Island radio station called WGLI-AM 1290, there are very, very few airchecks from WGLI-AM, and to find one that is unscoped is rare in itself. WGLI-AM started in 1958, the "GLI" stood for "Greater Long Island" Communications Inc., the station was also called "The Mighty 1290". WGLI was at the same location in Babylon New York from 1958 until the station burned down in 1990. This particular show runs for 178:13. The stations format is oldies, the station was also know as Long Islands' number one oldie station. Tommy Dee is doing an excellent job spinning the oldies and obscure doo wops. Here is a great piece of music history from WGLI, Long Island's Number One Radio Station that has gone to that great AM Radio History Heaven. Airchecks are recorded from radio broadcasts as it happened as a piece of documented music history. Most airchecks are recorded on tape which might have a break in conversation or song due to tape flipping then transferred to Compact Disc. No artwork or jewel cases are included, pictures are for illustration only, CD's are labeled and enclosed in a plain white envelope, they are shipped in a protective bubble pack shipping envelope. The sound quality is excellent for AM radio.
