Obverse: Centered on the obverse is a depiction of His Majesty King Charles III, posed facing right and wearing the Royal Diamond Diadem. A wide border frames the portrait bearing the inscriptions "CHARLES III," "AUSTRALIA" and "1 DOLLAR." This image of the monarch, known as the fifth definitive coinage portrait, was designed by acclaimed British sculptor Jody Clark in 2015.

The reverse features a touching image of a mother koala on a gumtree with a joey on her back. The name of the animal, "KOALA," is inscribed along the rim at the top. To the left are inscriptions of the date, "2023," and the coin's weight and purity, "1 OZ 9999 SILVER."A lazy koala is featured on the reverse surrounded by clusters of eucalyptus leaves, enjoying a peaceful nap while clinging to a curved tree limb. Koalas are primarily sedentary creatures, and are known to spend up to eighteen hours each day snoozing. A declaration of the series' title "KOALA," curves to the right above in an elegant style that is new to the series for the 2022 release. Additional inscriptions include "2024 1 OZ 9999 SILVER" and the Perth Mint's traditional "P" Mint mark.
