2 x Antique Silver Vesta Cases + 1 Silver-Topped Perfume Bottle with Fascinating Inscriptions

Total silver content = 65g (weight includes the 2 silver Vesta cases and the silver top, but excludes green glass perfume bottle and stopper).

Both Vesta cases have a nice floral design around their inscriptions. The silver looks great. Any surface scratches are very minimal and commensurate with age and use. Their hinges snap firmly shut and the strikers are good.

Vesta Case with Work Inscription and Symbols
Edwardian.
4.5 x 3.5 x 1 cm.
Hallmarks: R P (Robert Pringle), Anchor (Birmingham), Lion (Sterling Silver), d (1903).
Inscription: 'L Bax From his Shopmates 5.10.1903', with a saw and wood plane pictured. The definition of a shopmate in those days was a 'fellow-workman, fellow-clerk, or attendant in a shop'. In this case, it would suggest a factory worker who used the pictured tools during his work. That is unless there is some kind of Masonic connection. Either way, it is well inscribed and would be of great interest to social historians.
Condition: The silver is bright and shiny and looks great aesthetically. There is just a slight ding on one edge, the edge opposite the ring and towards the bottom. And it is hard to say, but the hoop the other side might have been attached to the Vesta case at a later date. The jump ring attached to the hoop does, however, have a Lion hallmark on it, which is a nice touch and confirming it too is sterling silver.

Vesta Case with Different Female Inscription Back and Front
5 x 4 x 0.5 cm.
Victorian.
Designed without a suspension loop to the side, so not intended for a Chatelaine.
Hallmarks to inside edge: CE&FD (Constantine Y& Floyd), Lion (Sterling Silver), x (1897), Anchor (Birmingham). Inside the lid, the date letter and sterling silver lion appear again. The date letter and Sterling Silver Lion appear again on the underside of the lid.
Inscription: 'Sarah' on one side and 'Sally' on the other. Were they sisters who shared the Vesta case? Perhaps secret lovers!
Condition: Silver bright and shiny and in nice condition, with no dings, splits or damage. The gilding inside is nice and bright too.

Silver-Topped Perfume Bottle
6.5 cm high. Diameter 3.75 cm.
Victorian / Edwardian.
Wider neck design. Thick glass, so difficult, if not impossible, to knock over easily. Screw top.
Appealing green coloured glass, which is more desirable to collectors than the clear glass, which is more common.
Complete with original stopper, which provides a very good seal. It is an excellent seal and there is no doubting that it is the original stopper, which is great.
Hallmarks to outer edge of silver top: C&C (Charles & Cohen), Anchor (Birmingham), Lion (Sterling Silver), a (1900). The date letter letter and Sterling Silver Lion appear again on the underside of the lid.
Inscription: 'Alice from Edith & Bea 1901'. This would have been the year after it was hallmarked. It confirms the great age of this perfume bottle. The inscription is unusual in that it is a three-way inscription between either sisters or very good friends. This would not have been cheap to buy in its day.
Condition - Minimal wear to silver top, commensurate with age and use. Gilding to inside of lid intact. No chips or cracks to the green bottle or stopper. Screw thread still works well and moves freely. The silver top aligns perfectly.

Three great silver items in one job lot and with inscriptions that would make them the talking point of any collection.
