Take a look at the girl in the bicycle dress - SO cool! This is an original c. 1898 photograph taken by George Peters of 4833 S. Ashland Avenue, Chicago - this is in the historic Back of the Yards neighborhood, and shows a high school (probably graduating) class. Peters was at that address from 1896 through 1902, at least, but the attire indicates a late 1890s date, possibly as late as 1900. This may be the Seward School (which opened in 1894) but other nearby high schools which were standing at the time include Hamline (although the foundation looks different than that in this photo), the old Sherman (built 1884, demolished 1937 and replaced with the present school), and possibly Fulton. Hedges and Libby were built in 1906 and 1901. I'm including a snip from the 1913 Chicago Schools map to show the most likely candidates.

The original photo is quite clear and crisp, especially for an image taken in the late 19th century. It measures approx. 7" x 9" and I've protected it in an acid-free sleeve. It would look amazing framed, or as a display piece. A rare item to add to your Chicago historical collection!

A truly amazing piece of Back of the Yards and Chicago history. Free local pickup is available in Geneva. If shipped, I will send via USPS, with a tracking number. Happy bidding!
