Pricking irons are markers which make impressions with consistent spacing for stitches while hand sewing leather.
Draw the groove where the seam should be. Place the iron and strike with a mallet. You will get an absolutely nice and straight row of marks for stitches. Use a diamond awl for punching holes while sewing. While stitching, hold the awl perfectly perpendicular to leather in order to avoid uneven stitches.
These pricking irons are manufactured in different sizes and have different amount of pricking teeth.
The size mentioned above the number of teeth on each tool means how many stitches you are able to make per one inch.
