This true shotgun microphone serves as a primary and reference audio source, delivering broadcast-quality sound through its innovative 1/2" condenser capsule.
The microphone's super-cardioid polar pattern ensures focused audio recording by minimizing surrounding noise, making it an ideal choice for capturing the subject in front of the camera. The VideoMic Pro is equipped with a 3.5mm minijack connector, outputting the mono signal to both left and right channels, and boasts an impressively low self-noise of just 14db.
This on-camera microphone features an integrated Rycote Lyre-based shock mounting system, which isolates the capsule and electronics from the mount. This design effectively mitigates unwanted rumble and vibrations caused by external physical factors. The Lyre, constructed from a single piece of durable thermoplastic, offers superior acoustic suspension compared to traditional elastic solutions, ensuring longevity and consistent performance.
The rear face of the microphone houses easily accessible power, filter, and level controls. The microphone's native 40Hz-20kHz response can be supplemented with a selectable high-pass filter at 80Hz, effectively eliminating low-end noise from sources like air conditioners and traffic. The level settings offer both attenuation and boost options to cater to various recording scenarios. The -10dB level attenuation (or PAD) is perfect for recording loud sound sources, while the +20dB level boost is designed to reduce the camera's preamp level, minimizing noise generated by the camera's audio circuitry.
The VideoMic Pro uses a standard-sized shoe mount for on-camera use and includes a 3/8" thread in the base of the mount for easy boom pole mounting.
