Walt Disney Studios

Original production celluloid painting from Disney's 1937 animated feature Snow White and the Seven Dwarves

Site: 8"x 10.5" Frame: 15.75"x 17.75"

PROVENANCE- Walt Disney Studios, Released exclusively by the Art Corner at Disneyland, Anaheim, Califorinia, label on matte verso--see photos

Looks very good, in "as found" original condition, minor and normal age waves in celluloid, very minor surface grime around character, frame has wear, glass should be removed before shipping-- please look at photos carefully.

Great looking production cel from the 1937 animated Disney film Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. This is an original painting on celluloid actually used in the production. For each slight movement in the action of a character in a Walt Disney animated picture, a celluloid painting must be made. These celluloid paintings are then photographed in succession over master backgrounds producing, on the motion picture film, numerous pictures, each with its minute change in movement. These, when projected on the screen in rapid succession, create the illusion of motion. Celluloid paintings are the final step in the creation of a Walt Disney animated picture. They are preceded by story sketches wherein the artists express their first creative ideas, by the animation drawings which give life and movement to the characters. My price of $1499 is extremely reasonable and far below what one would be expected to pay for it in a gallery or at auction.

Please check out the other artwork in our store on ebay. We regularly feature newly acquired artwork, from antique and vintage to contemporary and modern. Select the "See other items" tab on our page.

Biography:

Walt Disney Animation Studios (WDAS),[6] sometimes shortened to Disney Animation, is an American animation studio that creates animated features and short films for The Walt Disney Company. The company's production logo has a scene from the very first cartoon with sound, Steamboat Willie. Founded on October 16, 1923 by brothers Walt Disney and Roy O. Disney,[1] it is one of the oldest-running animation studios in the world. It is currently organized as a division of Walt Disney Studios and is headquartered at the Roy E. Disney Animation Building at the Walt Disney Studios lot in Burbank, California.[7] Since its foundation, the studio has produced 59 feature films, from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937) to Raya and the Last Dragon (2021),[8] and hundreds of short films.

Founded as Disney Brothers Cartoon Studio in 1923, renamed Walt Disney Studio in 1926 and incorporated as Walt Disney Productions in 1929, the studio was exclusively dedicated to producing short films until it expanded into feature production in 1934, resulting in 1937's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, one of the first full-length animated feature films and the first one made in the United States. In 1986, during a large corporate restructuring, Walt Disney Productions, which had grown from a single animation studio into an international multimedia company, was renamed The Walt Disney Company and the animation studio Walt Disney Feature Animation in order to differentiate it from the other divisions. Its current name was adopted in 2007 after Pixar Animation Studios was acquired by Disney in the previous year.

For much of its existence, the studio was recognized as the premier American animation studio;[9] it developed many of the techniques, concepts and principles that became standard practices of traditional animation.[10] The studio also pioneered the art of storyboarding, which is now a standard technique used in both animated and live-action filmmaking.[11] The studio's catalog of animated features is among Disney's most notable assets, with the stars of its animated shorts – Mickey MouseMinnie MouseDonald DuckDaisy DuckGoofy and Pluto – becoming recognizable figures in popular culture and mascots for The Walt Disney Company as a whole.

Walt Disney Animation Studios is currently managed by Jennifer Lee (Chief Creative Officer) and Clark Spencer (President), and continues to produce films using both traditional animation and computer-generated imagery (CGI).
